America's Next Reality Star was a breath of fresh air! Clearly I needed a heavy dose of chick lit because I read this book in just a few days and it was fantastic.

Jen Reid was working for a marketing firm that was not fully utilizing her talents. She was dating a loving boyfriend who was always called out of town as a traveling nurse. But an interesting email shows up in her Inbox inviting her to try out for a reality based game show called The Fishbowl. Jen decides to take a chance and try out for the show.

Karma seems to really want her on the show because her life seems to fall to pieces...or fall in line, depending on how you look at it...just in time for her to accept the invitation to appear on the show.

I have to admit, my family is not big on reality TV. So this was a little bit of an eye opener as to the amount of manipulation and lengths the producers go to in order to put on a show for the "fans". But it definitely made for entertaining reading, so I'm sure it makes for entertaining television!

All sorts of craziness happens to Jen throughout the tryouts, as well as the show itself. I loved that since the show was named The Fishbowl, the house they lived in was all glass inside and shaped liked a fishbowl. Having them run into the glass walls all the time was a great bit!

The characters were funny, the relationships were well developed, and there were even a few twists and turns that were wholly unexpected. I was fully engaged in the story and had a hard time putting this one down!

If you are looking for a great chick-lit romance, this is for you! It's more than just fluff though. I thought it had some definite heart to the book and that's why I enjoyed it so much.

Clean romance. Content: Language

Twenty-four-year-old Jen Reid had her life in good shape: an okay job, a tiny-cute Seattle apartment, and a great boyfriend almost ready to get serious. In a flash it all came apart. Single, unemployed, and holding an eviction notice, who has time to remember trying out for a reality show? Then the call comes, and Jen sees her chance to start over—by spending her summer on national TV.

Luckily The Fishbowl is all about puzzles and games, the kind of thing Jen would love even if she wasn’t desperate. The cast checks all the boxes: cheerful, quirky Birdie speaks in hashtags; vicious Ariana knows just how to pout for the cameras; and corn-fed “J-dawg” plays the cartoon villain of the house. Then there’s Justin, the green-eyed law student who always seems a breath away from kissing her. Is their attraction real, or a trick to get him closer to the $250,000 grand prize? Romance or showmance, suddenly Jen has a lot more to lose than a summer .
